Prior to my retirement from Princeton in July 2021, I served as the Director of Studies (1993-2001) and then Dean of Mathey College (2002-2021). I earned my PhD. In Modern European History (specifically, the intellectual history of Germany and France) and had the good fortune to have been able to teach courses at Princeton in the History Department, the Freshman Seminar Program, and the Writing Program. Starting about four years prior to my retirement and continuing since then, I’ve engaged with state and community groups that advocate for social justice issues as well as increased community engagement itself.
